Why TroubleFree WP

Update day shouldn't take all day

Looking after many WordPress sites by hand is slow, and one bad update can take a client's site down.

Updating by hand

  • Log into each site, one at a time, to see what needs updating
  • Click update and hope nothing breaks
  • Open every important page afterwards to make sure it still works
  • Find out a site is down when the client calls
  • Write each client an email about what you did
  • Clients see a third-party plugin in their wp-admin
  • Add another plugin just to put up a maintenance page

With TroubleFree WP

  • Every site, every waiting update and every vulnerability on one dashboard
  • A copy before each update, and an automatic rollback if a page breaks
  • Key pages checked for you, with before and after screenshots
  • An email when an update fails or a site goes offline
  • A branded report for each client, ready to preview and send
  • The plugin under your agency's name, or hidden from clients
  • A maintenance page for visitors, switched on from the dashboard

How it works

Every update is checked before you move on

Click Update, or let a schedule do it. Each plugin and theme update goes through the same four steps.

  1. 1

    Copy

The site keeps a copy of the current version, and your backup plugin can take a full backup.

  2. 2

    Update

The plugin or theme updates on the site, one at a time so nothing overlaps.

  3. 3

    Check

We load the homepage, wp-admin and the pages you choose, and compare screenshots on paid sites.

  4. 4

    Keep or roll back

All good, it stays. A PHP or server error, and the old version goes back automatically.

Up and running in about three minutes

  1. Step 1

    Install the plugin

On each site, from Plugins > Add New.

  2. Step 2

    Paste the access token

From Settings > TroubleFree WP into Add Site.

  3. Step 3

    Update with confidence

    Every site, from one dashboard.

Features

Everything you need to look after many sites

Free on every site, with paid features for the sites that need more.

Maintenance Runs Paid

Each round of updates gets a review board that sorts sites into "needs a look" and "looks good".

Client Reports Paid

Preview and send each client a branded email of what was updated and checked, from your own address if you like.

Before & After Screenshots Paid

See what changed on each page after an update, with the changed areas marked, and undo big changes automatically.

Invite managers and collaborators, group sites by client, and jump into any wp-admin without a password.

White Label Paid

Show the plugin in wp-admin under your agency's name, or hide it from your clients altogether.

Multisite Ready

Built for agencies

Your weekly maintenance, from update to client email

Update every site, check the ones that need it, and show each client what you did. All in one place.

  1. 1

    Update everything at once

One click updates every site, or the ones you pick. Or let Scheduled Updates run them at a quiet time.

  2. 2

    Review what needs it

The run's board sorts sites into Needs A Look and Looks Good, with screenshots one click away. Mark them reviewed as you go.

  3. 3

    Send each client a report

A branded email of what was updated and checked. Preview it, add a personal note, and send it to the clients who want one.

  4. Reports go out as "Your Agency via TroubleFree WP" with replies to you, 25 a month for each paid site, or from your own email server with no limit. Nothing is sent until you press Send.

  • Before and after screenshots show visual changes the error check can't.

FAQ

Questions, answered

Something else? Email support@troublefreewp.com.

What happens if an update breaks my site?

Before each plugin or theme update, the site keeps a copy of the current version. After the update we load the homepage, wp-admin and the pages you choose. If any of them shows a PHP or server error, the old version is put back automatically, and you can see what happened on the Activity page.

What does the plugin need?

WordPress 6.0 or newer and PHP 7.4 or newer. Install the TroubleFree WP plugin on each site and paste its access token into the dashboard. It works on ordinary hosting; there is nothing to set up on the server.

How do client reports work?

After a round of updates, open a site's Client Report to see the email exactly as your client will, add a note and press Send. Nothing goes out on its own. Reports carry your agency name, logo and sign-off, and replies come to you. Each paid site includes 25 report emails a month, shared across your sites, or connect your own email server to send from your address with no limit.

Can I hide the plugin from my clients?

Yes. With paid features, White Label in Site Settings shows the plugin in wp-admin under your agency's name, or hides it from the Plugins list and the Settings menu. Apply it to one site or all of them at once.

Which backup plugins work?

UpdraftPlus, WPvivid Backup, BackWPup, Duplicator, All-in-One WP Migration and Jetpack VaultPress Backup. If a site has more than one, you choose which to use. Your backups stay wherever your backup plugin keeps them.

Do you store my site's content?

No. We keep what the dashboard shows: versions, lists of plugins and themes, backup names and a history of changes. For sites with paid features we also keep screenshots of the pages we check. We don't copy your content, database or backup files.

Can I share sites with my team or clients?

Yes. Invite people to a site as a Manager or a Collaborator; managers can also invite others and switch paid features on. Everyone can group the sites they see under their own labels, such as the client or agency they belong to.

How does billing work?

Every feature you can do by hand is free on every site, up to 100 sites. Paid features are switched on per site, at $2 per site a month or $20 a year, and the price per site drops at 25 and 100 paid sites. Try them free on one site for 14 days with no card, and cancel any time.

What if I stop using it?

Remove the site from the dashboard, then deactivate and delete the plugin. Deleting it removes its access token and settings from the site, and your site keeps working exactly as before.
